Sébire Gaston (1920-2001)
Painter born August 18, 1920 in Saint-Samson in the Calvados. Died in 2001.
He was appointed Official Painter of the Navy in 1973.
From 1936 to 1944 after his studies, Gaston Sébire working night jobs to Rouen to devote himself to painting the day.
After moving to Paris in 1951, while remaining true to its Normandy, Gaston Sébire realized in 1953, the costumes and sets for "Angel gray" Cuevas.
From the sixties, he regularly participates in group exhibitions: Salon des Independants and the Salon d'Automne and the Salon Comparisons; the French Artists Salon, Salon d'Angers.
It also participates in various exhibitions at the School of Paris at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris between 1953 and 1961. In 1957 Gaston Sébire found his Normandy, where he moved with his family. From 1965 he exhibited at Wally Findlay Galleries, New York, Paris and Chicago. Winner of the Critics Prize in 1953, Greenshields Award in 1957, he received the Gold Medal of the Salon of French Artists in 1968.
In 1991 The Marine Museum pays tribute to Gaston Sébire throughout the summer.
