In 1900 he was a pupil free of the Beaux-Arts in Paris.
In 1903, he entered the private studio of Luc-Olivier Merson.
In 1907 he was a pupil of Jean-Paul Laurens, attended the Academy "Palette in Montparnasse, met Luc-Albert Moreau and Boussignault with whom he shared a studio.
His first drawings were published in 1908 in the "grand review" and "Witness."
The same year he began exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Artistes Indépendants.
Almost indifferent to contemporary aesthetic revolutions, it began with Boussignault and Moreau, to resurrect the realism of Courbet running still lifes, nudes, landscapes, to a thick paste and masonry.
From this period, renting a house owned by Signac, he discovers the countryside of Saint-Tropez, which he remained faithful and where he lived until the end of his life. However, staying there that preferentially in the summer for the rest, instead he took a real nomadic life in search of above ground through the islands of France, the Grand Valley Morin Feucherolles, Chennevières ect.
In 1910, he knew the couturier Paul Poiret and met Max Jacob, Dufy, Vlaminck.
From 1910 to 1914, he traveled to Italy, Spain, North Africa, he became interested in sport and dance (drawings of Russian Ballet Isodore Duncan, 1911, The Boxer 1910).
From 1914 to 1918, drafted into the infantry, he made war harshly, before being assigned to camouflage. It performs many drawings of war, valuable for their artistic and documentary value.
Since 1919 he is back in numerous exhibitions, including the main lounge Parisians. It appears that early post-war as the main representative of traditional realism.
